A NOTE FROM ROBERTA, SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY JAZZ FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR.....

Feb 2009 - you did it again!!  I'd again like to thank all the parents that signed up to help work the festival--THANK YOU SOOOOOO much! Without your help and hard work, the festival would not have been so successful. With the added logistics of the new night concert at another location, I was a little concerned. But as always, you pulled it off, and without a hitch.

A REALLY BIG THANK YOU to those that just showed up and asked if they could work! WOW-that was very unexpected, but very appreciated! I am sorry that I didn't have enough work for some of you to stay and do, but I'll be sure to call you early next year to get you on the list so you can help. BUCHANAN JAZZ FAMILIES ROCK!

BHS Jazz "A" Concert with BUG - DO NOT MISS IT!!

Here's some info for an upcoming concert at the Paul Shaghoian Concert  Hall with a great group of musicians who call themselves BUG. James Miley - Piano, Peter Epstein - Sax, Jeff Miley - Guitar, Roger Shew Bass, Brian Hamada - Drums.  The concert starts at 7:30pm and tickets are $10 (students) & $15 (adults) The ticket window will open at 6pm at the hall. The Buchanan High School Jazz Band 'A' will open for BUG and will feature them on a few of James Miley's big band compositions including a new commission for the 'A' band by the group Radiohead. The 2007-2008 members of the Buchanan High School Jazz Band "A" took 1st Place overall at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival on April 5, 2008! This prestigeous position has gained them not only national recognition, but it also earned them a spot on the coveted Jimmy Lyons Stage in the Arena, at the 51st Annual Monterey Jazz Festival in September! The festival runs from Sept. 19 - 21, 2008 with the band performing on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. Don't miss this BHS & CUSD history making event. While on their site, click around and read about the 2006-2007 Next Gen winners, and get more info about the festival and how you can support jazz education as well. WOW - what an awesome weekend and what a great performance by the band!! They sounded just amazingly awesome! I've been told that soon I'll have some pretty cool pics to post for you to see, so you can get a glimpse at just how awesome the weekend was. If you ever get the chance to go to the Monterey Jazz Festival - GO!!!! The weather is perfect, the air is clean and fresh, and the music, well, I've never experienced better!
